上游型蒸汽机车是上世纪70年代至90年代杭钢铁路运输的主力机车，为钢铁生产的运输作出了巨大贡献。现存的上游型1643蒸汽机车为1989年出厂，是杭钢引进使用的最后一台蒸汽机车。该车全长22米，整备重量140吨，牵引动力1500马力，设计时速80公里。
SY steam locomotive is the breadwinner of HISGC in the railway transportation between the 1970s and 90s, which has made great contribution to the transportation for the steel and iron production. The existing SY 1643 steam locomotive delivered in 1989 is the last steam locomotive introduced by HISGC. This locomotive is with a total length of 22meters, the service weight of 140 tons, the traction power of 1500 horsepower and the design speed of 80 km.
2002年，随着杭钢铁路运输设备的升级换代，高性能、污染少的内燃机车逐步取代蒸汽机车，最后一台上游型1643蒸汽机车完成历史使命正式退役。
As the upgrading of the railway transport equipment in HISGC, with diesel locomotives of high performance and little pollution gradually taking the places of steam locomotives, the last SY 1643 steam locomotive finally completed its historical commission and officially retired in 2002.
